As a parent I try my best to incorporate a bed time story into our bed time routine. With four kids, it can be a bit hard sometimes, but we all try our best! I consider bed time stories to be quality time where we can snuggle and read together. But there's much more to reading stories than snuggles and pointing to pictures.
Did you know that reading story books with your child can help support his/her language development. Using story books with repetitive phrases, colorful pictures and incorporating interactive parts help the child stay focused, feel in control and encourages him to join.
One of my all time favourites is Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell. You can't go wrong with Dear Zoo as it ticks all the boxes; it has a short repetitive phrase, it's fun and who doesn't love zoo animals! I have created a short video demonstrating how to make this simple story book interactive and fun for your little one.
